What is W2W?
 W2W is the Welcome to Wollongong project.
It is aimed at:
- Making international students feel welcome in the Illawarra.
- Providing international students with more information about what is happening in the community.
- Making the community more aware of the large and diverse international student population who study in Wollongong.
Why is it needed?
For a number of years, some of the members of the W2W working group have been carrying our research on international students. They have found:
- Many students come to Australia expecting to make friends easily with local students and others in the community. Students often find this more difficult than they expect, with some becoming lonely and home sick. There is a need for the community to play a role in helping international students to feel welcome in Wollongong.
Who runs W2W?
- The W2W is a community working group comprising members from the University of Wollongong (both staff and students), Wollongong TAFE, Wollongong City Council, community groups, business groups and social groups.
- The website is being overseen by the W2W working group but is being run on a day to day basis by a team of paid and volunteer international students.
Who is funding W2W?
At present the W2W project is being funded through an IMB Community Foundation grant. The group intends to sustain this project through funding from business and the community.
